The Thousand Avalokiteśvara Statues at Pema Shedrup Dargye Khandroling, Dangchu
Today, on this most auspicious day, His Eminence Busa Trulku Rinpoche presided over the blessing and installation of 1,000 statues of Four-Armed Avalokiteśvara (Chenrezig) at Pema Shedrup Dargye Khandroling Nunnery, Dangchu.
The thousand sacred images, beautifully arranged around the main shrine hall, magnify the spiritual power of this holy place, long sanctified by the blessings of Guru Padmasambhava.
This noble project was first envisioned in February of this year, when three devoted patrons—Mrs. Sherry Lin, Mr. Su, and Mr. Peter—made the heartfelt aspiration to sponsor it. After six months of preparation and dedicated effort, their vision has now been brought to perfect completion.
In his teachings, Busa Trulku Rinpoche continually reminds us that in this degenerate age of declining Dharma, the practice of Avalokiteśvara is especially vital for taming and transforming the mind. Without bodhicitta—the awakening mind of compassion—and inner calm, Dharma practice cannot truly take root. Rinpoche urged all to supplicate Avalokiteśvara, so that we all may become kind and gentle, self-clinging may gradually diminish, and wisdom (prajñā) may arise.
The consecration ritual was conducted by Rinpoche himself, together with the Lopen, Lopenma, and the nuns, who performed purification rituals and extensive offerings. Through this, the sacred presence of Chenrezig was firmly established, becoming a source of blessings to dispel obscurations and accumulate vast merit.
Dangchu Monastery has already held six times of the 8 pairs of Avalokiteśvara Nyungne fasting retreat. The 7th retreat will begin soon on August 23rd of this year.
With deepest gratitude, we honor the three patrons whose boundless generosity made possible the swift fulfillment of this 1,000 Avalokiteśvara Statues Project. Truly, their merit is beyond measure.
Through this virtue, may all beings who suffer in states of misery be uplifted to the noble stage of great compassion.
May wars, illnesses, famine, weapons, and fear throughout the world be pacified.
In particular, may the noble vision of our beloved Fifth King — sovereign protector of the Dharma, blossom fully in the Gelephu Mindfulness City—accomplished with ease, free from every hindrance, and radiant like a wish-fulfilling jewel.
