Drangla Lami Goenpa Monastery

Drangla Lamai Gonpa was built by Khedrup Choki Dorji, who was the sixth abbot of Busa Wangdue Goenpa Monastery. In Drangla, the local deity, Thrinlay Dendup, attempted to harm the Lama with evil magic power by transforming himself into an iron-fierce wild yak. The lama, with his spiritual power, subdued the deity and made him the dharma protector of the area. He then built the Drangla Lamai Gonpa, which is still being used as the residence of the successful lineage of Busa Trulku Rinpoche. On top of it, he established a crematorium for the people of Drangla. It is believed Khedrup Choki Dorji is linked to Choying Rangdrol, who is the son of Dorji Lingpa. Choying Rangdrol is the incarnation of Yudra Nyingpo and the disciple of Vairotsana.

The Seventy Abbot of Busa Wangdue Gonpa, Lama Dorji Tenzin, who was the nephew of Khedrup Choki Dorji and received the teachings of the Dorje Lingpa tradition from him and mastered them, also stayed at Drangla Lamai Gonpa and Wangdue Gonpa, preaching the dharma.
The Eighth Abbot of Busa Wangdue Goenpa, Lama Sherab Yoezer, was born as a grandson of Khedrup. Choki Dorji stayed and blessed the Drangla Monastery.
The Ninth Abbot of Busa Wangdue Goenpa Lam Phuntsho Dorji (alias Tsundru Dorji) was born to Namgay Pelmo, the younger sister of Lama Sherab Yoezer, and preached dharma at Drangla Monastery.
The Buli Trulku who gave him some statues (buddhas) is kept at the Drangla Monastery, and a Choedril (large bell) is kept at Busa Wangdue Gonpa.
The Tenth Abbot of Busa Wangdue Gonpa, Lam Ngawang Tenzin Rinpoche, was born to the younger brother of Lam Phuntsho Dorji at Drangla Monastery, who rebuilt the old Drangla Lamai Goenpa.
The current Busa Trulku, the Eleventh Abbot, was born to Father Nyep Phurba, who is the elder brother of Lam Ngawang Tenzin Rinpoche from Lamai Gonpa, Drangla.
Till date, five (5) lineage holders of the heart son of Terchen Dorji Lingpa were born from the family of Drangla Lamai gonpa. Thus, both from an incarnation and lineage perspective, Dranga Lama Gonpa is considered very sacred, and it’s looked after and maintained by the successive lineage holders of Busa Trulku.
